The Wolf is the largest member of the Canidae family which survived the ice age more than 300,000 years ago.  He shares a common ancestry with the dog.  Interestingly, Gray wolf paws have webbing between each toe so they can tread easily on snow.  At birth, wolves have darker fir and blue irises that change to yellow or orange at 8 to 16 weeks old.  They have two layers of fur.  The outer fur repels water and dirt and the undercoast insulates and is shed in late spring or early summer.
